Doubts before buying a Hair Prosthesis (PART II): Color, Discomfort and Transition

Hi, I'm Damaris.

I had some doubts before I started using toppers and I want to share the answers I found.

COLOR: The first doubt was: How do I choose the color? For me, it was quite easy because, as you can see, my hair is almost the same color as the piece. Being dark, it is my natural hair color, which makes it quite easy to match. In general, I have seen that it is quite easy to match the piece with organic hair. You can also dye the piece to match your hair more closely, but really nobody has hair of a single color. Within a color there are many shades, so it is easy to match it, pull out a few strands of your own hair and blend it with the piece itself.

DISCOMFORT: Another question I asked myself was whether wearing it was going to bother me.

I don't wear it all day. I leave the house and put it on like one more accessory, like someone putting on makeup. And when I get back home, just as I take off my shoes, I take the piece off and put it back in its place.

It isn't uncomfortable because I don't wear it for that many hours either. On the days I have worn it for many hours, it hasn't hurt or bothered me either.

The sensation is similar to when you go to a wedding, have your hair styled at the hairdresser's and use hairpins: you feel that you are wearing something in your hair, but it isn't painful.

THE TRANSITION: Another doubt I had was: What was that transition going to be like?

Going from being a person with no hair to having a full head of hair has been quite easy. At home they have gotten used to seeing me with and without the piece, depending on the situation.

People who have met me recently, to whom I spoke naturally about my lack of hair, look at me and say: "But you have lots of hair, what are you talking about?".

I tell them that it's not mine and they answer: "Well, don't say it, because nobody notices". In this sense, it has been quite easy.

Even people who knew me from before have noticed that I have done something with my hair, but they don't dare say what exactly. So it has been an easy transition, although initially I was worried.

I recommend using toppers. It has been something very easy that transforms you immediately and simply. Of course, it is somewhat expensive, but just as one has to get dental treatment if a tooth is missing and one can't smile, I consider this to be something similar.

It is a matter of image and self-confidence, of feeling good, and I think it is worth the price it has.
