Wig VS Topper: How Do They Differ?
What is the difference between a wig and hair Toppers?
When making content on tiktok, some women comment: why do you call it toppers if it's called a wig? Well, I don't mind calling it a wig and perhaps in Spanish the word Topper has become more popular because of, let's say, the stigma that is associated with the wig.
Wig base or cap and Topper
The cap, in the case of the wig, reaches all parts of the hair and the head. A wig would cover almost the entire head because its base or cap is a large base, if we compare it with that of a topper.
In my case, the Topper I use has a wide base, but even so, the part that is woven is much smaller than that of the wig.
In the case of the topper, it reaches the upper-middle area of my head, whereas the wig would cover my head completely.
Uses: wig vs natural hair Topper
The wig is designed mainly to cover your head and hair completely, in case you still have hair.
Also, and speaking more specifically of the cheaper wigs, they usually come with a strap to adjust at the back and so that they adapt to the size of your head, although they also come in different sizes.
The hair topper, on the other hand, is a hair prosthesis that is designed rather to adapt to the type of hair loss you have.
For example, with different head sizes, you could use my topper without a problem, whether you have a smaller or a larger head.
So, wigs that cover the whole head are usually used, for example, by women who shave their heads or who perhaps put on a mesh cap to cover their hair, or examples such as cancer patients or those who suffer from alopecia universalis or alopecia areata.
In my case, having androgenic alopecia, the use of a natural hair topper is much better for my case, since it is easier to blend with my hair and looks more natural on me.
So, it is not so much that a wig is better than a natural hair Topper or vice versa, but rather that they are different hair prostheses, for different cases and for different needs.
I have asked many women and some decide on the wig, others on the topper, and each has her reasons.
There are some who find it much more comfortable to use a wig and others have told me that maintaining a wig is much more complicated than in the case of the topper.
